    It’s at least an asset of a contract for possible trades over the next year. Obviously, one hopes he can be coached up into the good player his potential has previously suggested. But either way this can really help us and doesn’t really hurt us.

    The problem is that next year draft is loaded. It’s not just Flagg. I would trade Jalen for a top 15 pick in 2025 maybe even Jabari. And I like both. So people saying it’s only 8 or 6% are not even looking at the bigger picture. Also Stone should have at least gotten 1 more pick or swap out of the 2025 swap. Another point is that the trade happened bc we gave them the picks. But we also heard that Mikal was gonna force his way out and go the Knicks. So Nets wouldn’t have gotten all that package and they would be begging us to give them those picks. That’s why a lot of fans didn’t like that trade. We let the Nets off the hook instead of squeezing them with 1 or more picks.

      I've followed the NBA for 44 yrs. No draft is 15 deep. Even if you get a player who turns into a Superstar next yr, it's not like stars happen in their rookie season. I'm glad you can wait for some star who may or may not develop 5 yrs from now but you can't blame for Tillman to wanna be playing for Championship in 2 or 3 yrs after he's sat thru a painful 4 yr rebuild so far. There's tons of talent on this team. Enjoy it

    Reed took a very limited amount of shots in college on a stacked team. He shot around 35% from 3P range in high school with more volume, so what he did at Kentucky was more than likely an anomaly. Everyone fell for the same thing with Jabari by ignoring his high school shooting numbers. This was a very risky pick and the Rockets haven’t been doing to well when it comes to the top picks they drafted.

    The Rockets need an athletic big something they don’t have on the team who can play this year. If the playoffs are any indication is that an athletic big is what the Rockets are missing, especially with the future uncertainty of Steven Adams. It’s not very often a rookie shooter contributes in the first year, that’s reason why I think the Rockets should look to add a veteran free agent shooter.

    • @RobertLandHoustonSportsTalk
      @RobertLandHoustonSportsTalk 14 днів тому

      A vet shooter will cost twice as much as a rookie in this market. Gradey Dick had a slow start as a shooter but shot 40% from 3 from January forward. Sheppard shot 52% & many of those were NBA range. He's not like other college shooters in recent history. Thx for the take

    • @darryl2346
      @darryl2346 14 днів тому

      @@RobertLandHoustonSportsTalk Mr. Land, respectfully I again say you can’t rely on a rookie shooter that probably won’t crack the rotation. You can’t compare Grady Dick numbers to this situation because he played on a lesser team. It took 2 of greatest college shooters of all time in JJ Redick 4 to 5 years & Jimmer Fredette who didn’t make it and only played 1 to 2 years then went back over seas. I don’t know the Rockets actual financial situation, but I think the Rockets have enough money in TPE alone of about 13 mil to buy at least 1 good shooters or possibly 2. It doesn’t have to be Klay Thompson or Luke Kanard, it could be someone like Lonnie Walker or Alex Burks.

    Reed only averaged 8 FGA per game (4 three point attempts per game), and most of his shots were uncontested. As a Rockets fan, I would throw up if they draft Reed with the #3 pick. He’s going to have a hard time getting his shots off and making it to the rim as a pro. The player the Rockets can’t pass up on is Dalton Knecht. Who’s the best offensive player in this draft and he’s NBA ready.

      Many of Reed's shots were NBA range. That's why they weren't contested. He didn't start so his attempts weren't as high. He also had a gunner in Dillingham with him. I have no concern about his shooting. 52% from 3 is 10% than the best shooters in college. Knecht might be good too but he never shot 40 or above from 3 in 3 yrs in college. This Rockets situation reminds me of the Pacers situation and the current Kings situation. Sabonis/Sengun are both great offensively from 10ft in, the problem is they don't have enough versatileity in their game both offensively and defensively. They can't stretch the floor, and they can't rim protect... They are locked in at the 5: position, when their size should have them playing the 4 but they aren't quick enough to play the 4. It's harder to find a player type to play the 4 alongside ALP and a Sabonis cause that player would have to protect the paint/ stretch the floor/ and be able to switch. Why is it that Reed Sheppard don’t attract so much interest from other NBA teams. Just look at teams who wanna trade down for clingan, okc, jazz, bulls, grizzlies, blazers etc, that tells you something. Unfortunately non of these teams really like Sheppard except for some Rockets guys.

      The Rockets have Sengun. Those other teams don't

      @@RobertLandHoustonSportsTalk sengun is not a shot blocker, he’s not a lob threat and was ineffective against physical bigs, and that’s an area clingan can actually help him. clingan can be a solid back up to sengun. Someone you can throw in to guard wemby, Jokic, Davis, sabonis, zubac, porzingis, embiid, Gianni’s,adebayo. Just look at nba finals, kyrie with all his ball handling and shooting abilities can’t even shoot. Bcos Boston is putting big body on him, will Sheppard be better than kyrie. Finally who say sengun & Clingan can’t play together at some point if they develop their 3point shot like brook Lopez did and was able to play with Gianni’s.

      @@luckychukwuma3822 Brook Lopez had real touch as a post up scorer prior to him adding range. If you're willing to wait 5 or 10 yrs down the road, maybe they can play together - but just remember you also have Amen who can't shoot. It's gonna take yrs for him to get there. It's not that I hate Clingan. It's just that Sheppard has more of a chance to play with the players the Rockets are developing

      @@RobertLandHoustonSportsTalk I get you Mr Robert but what I’m saying is that he can be a solid back up to sengun. Bcos there’s gonna be games and moments in games where this archetype is gonna be needed. That’s Space the floor with Jalen, Fred, jabari & whitmore and throw in clingan at 5 for lobs, dunks,rebounds,blocks and kick out to shooters especially when sengun is not having a good game

    Good pod. I still would rather have Castle, but I could live with Shepperd if they use the pick. however if they trade for a piece we can use now that would be ideal

    I feel reed will be just as good as Caruso in a few years

      Doesn't have the length of Caruso. Should be a better shooter. Caruso more of a wing. Reed's gotta show the ability to play point. Thx for the take

    Passing on Reed, who is a great fit for Houston, would be a huge mistake.
